MADERA - Summertime is the perfect time to tackle a project, photo, recipe or more for the annual Madera District Fair! No household should echo the dreaded ‘I’m bored’, when the exhibitor handbook has ample opportunities to show-off your crafty, artsy, baker, garden or plain old competitive side.
The annual handbook features returning and new contests yearly such as the kids 2018 LEGO competition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the LEGO “brick”. Winners will receive an anniversary LEGO set along with a ribbon. In celebration of the “Get Hitched” wedding, a bridal bouquet can be entered which will be ‘tossed’ on the Patio Stage following the September 8th nuptials.
Unique hobbies such as doodling can be entered in “Doodly-Do” this year. A fresh spin on the 3’x4’ “Billboard” contest invites exhibitors to paint it live as the gates open Thursday, September 6th and could bring the winner a cool $150 cash award! Increasing smartphone features make it very easy for all to catch amazing photographs to print and enter. Live food judging is a fair favorite with returning competitions; Homegrown Pie, Cupcake Wars, BBQ Ribs and Salsa.
“Entering items in the fair is as simple as this; get your hands on a book, find your contest, complete and return the form, bring the item and visit the Fair to see your masterpiece on display,” said Barbara Leach, events coordinator. “It’s wonderful to see returning competitors and new ones catch exhibit fever- this is an 80 year tradition and still running!”
