RESTAURANT REVIEW - When I worked in Merced ions ago I used to eat at Mountain Mike's all the time. I have always preferred a brick oven pizza like Me n Ed's, Straw Hat or Downtown Pizza Cafe in Madera. Mountain Mike's is one of the only conveyor ovens pizza's I like. Round Table in Madera and all the Pizza Hut's use conveyor ovens. The toppings on Mountain Mike's pizzas were extremely fresh and tasty. I will probably be back to this place quite often.
Now I know they are working out the kinks of just opening but there are a few things they need to work on. We went in for the lunch buffet and we had a hard time getting to the buffet. Every thing was shoved into a corner; salad, pizza and soda. A table was in the way of getting your food in a smooth flow. In fact the people who were sitting at that table moved because other customers were right on top of them the whole time they sat there.
We were there are 11:45am and I felt the pizza's were a little slow to come out and refill the station. There was a poster that said "Try Them All" with a stack of pizza's advertising the "all you can eat buffet". I would have liked to have tried some of their specialty pizzas. I know what a combo and a pepperoni taste like. I would have liked to try The McKinley, The Everest or even Mt. St. Helens.
I will try the buffet again. It was a good value at $5.99 without a drink or $6.99 with. At least they have the pizza buffet. I remember when Round Table would advertise a buffet on TV but the local guy (Bill Dawson) refused to offer one. As far as their pizza prices, they are up there with Round Table as the more expensive pizzas in town. But if you go to their website they have some coupons you can print out that brings them more in line.
If you are planning a birthday party or having a meeting, they have a meeting room with TV's. I plan on using it for my Little League post-season party. Anything that isn't Round Table is a good thing in my book.
