WEST SACRAMENTO - Our Lady of Grace School (OLG) in West Sacramento is proud to announce the 5th Annual River City Chili Cook-off, on November 18, 2017, from 6:00pm-10:00pm at Ace of Spades in midtown Sacramento. Tickets are just $30 per person, and all the proceeds from the event will benefit educational programs at the school.
The Chili Cook-off started in 2013 at Holy Cross Academy in West Sacramento. Due to the events overwhelming popularity, it was moved to Raley Field's Western Health Advantage Legacy Club and renamed the West Sac Chili Cook-off in 2015. In honor of Holy Cross Academy, which closed in May, OLG will now host the event.
"I was the Principal at Holy Cross when this event started," said Laura MacDonald, principal at OLG. "Having OLG continue on the chili cook-off is a great way to honor Holy Cross's legacy. Plus, it's a really fun event," she continued.
"People love the chili cook-off," said Michael Babowal, chair of the River City Chili Cook-off. "We sold out the past 2 years and needed a larger venue. We were fortunate enough to have a connection at Ace of Spades," Babowal continued. "Once Ace of Spades became a reality, we wanted to represent both West Sacramento and Sacramento, so we changed the name to the River City Chili Cook-off," Babowal explained.
Participants in this year's chili cook-off already include the 2016 Judge's and People's Choice champion - Dos Coyotes, Burgers and Brew, Asanté Catering, Stoney's Rockin' Rodeo, The Golden Bear, Origami Asian Grill, Lenise's Café, Cicl's Taste, and Cali Love New American Street Food with more applications coming in daily. The organizers anticipate 15-20 local restaurants.
