EDITORIAL: Impeachment, The Left's Fall Fantasy

EDITORIAL - As the Democrats’ impeachment fantasy crumbles before our eyes, it is worth examining the actions of recent U.S. Presidents to determine whether Donald Trump’s actions regarding Ukraine genuinely warrant removal from office. President Trump is accused of trying to pressure the new president of Ukraine to conduct political investigations into corruption in exchange for military assistance.

When one looks back at recent American history, President Trump’s actions or non-actions seem almost inconsequential in comparison. Actions of other Presidents involved wholesale violations of the Constitution, military engagements that could have led to nuclear war, numerous undeclared wars and even the seizure of private property.

Let’s take a look:

FDR violated the Interstate Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution numerous times with his New Deal policies. The Supreme Court ruled so.  He also violated the Neutrality Acts passed by Congress in the 1930s. Was he impeached? No.

Harry Truman launched a War in Korea without a Declaration of War from Congress. He also seized private property ( the steel mills ) during the Korean War. Was he impeached? No.

President Eisenhower threatened North Korea with nuclear war if they didn’t cease their aggression in 1953.  He threatened aid to Britain, France, and Israel if they didn’t get out of the Suez Canal after Nasser nationalized it in 1956. Was he impeached? No.

President Kennedy threatened U.S. manufacturers with legal action and FBI investigations if they didn’t roll back steel prices in 1962. He ordered the wiretapping of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Was he impeached? No.

Lyndon Johnson launched a War in Vietnam without a Declaration of War from Congress. He tried to bribe the communist leader of North Vietnam Ho Chi Minh with a $1 billion TVA-style electrification project for the Mekong River. Was he impeached? No.

President Carter engaged in a series of actions that betrayed long-standing American allies, actions that arguably threatened national security, including unilaterally abrogating our Mutual Defense Treaty with the Republic of China on Taiwan ( something the Senate had already forbidden and a federal judge later overruled ). Was he impeached? No.

George H.W. Bush threatened Israel with a cutoff of funds if it didn’t cease building illegal Jewish settlements on the West Bank. Was he impeached? No.

George W. Bush launched the catastrophic War in Iraq without a Declaration of War by Congress. Was he impeached? No.

Barack Hussein Obama engaged in a series of unilateral actions that were constitutionally-questionable, such as changing parts of the Affordable Care Act without authorization from Congress and enacting DACA which he himself said he lacked the power to enact on his own. He also intervened militarily in Libya without a Declaration of War and in violation of the War Powers Act. Was he impeached? No.

When one examines the facts, the realization that the current impeachment farce is simply a partisan political act to remove a president whose policies rub the globalist establishment the wrong way is apparent. It is also a calculated distraction to draw public attention away from the forthcoming Horowitz and Durham investigations into the criminal roots of the Russia collusion hoax.

If we refuse to impeach Presidents whose actions are expressly condemned by the Supreme Court or violate the laws of Congress or threaten foreign leaders with nuclear war, how can Trump be impeached for encouraging President Zelensky to “do the right thing.” The truth is that encouraging a foreign leader to cooperate in ongoing corruption investigations or to reopen past investigations is hardly irregular, let alone a crime. Is it a crime simply because the Democrat’s favorite senescent politician Joe Biden and his relatives might be involved?

Would it have been different if it had been a Republican politician’s son who was implicated?

No nation has some automatic right to the hard-earned money of American taxpayers. Ukraine is no different. The United States has no treaty with Ukraine. It is not a member of NATO, even though it would like to be. It is a wellspring of public and private corruption. Not only is there convincing evidence that it tried to meddle in the 2016 elections at Hillary’s behest, but it was also a lavish funder of the criminal enterprise known as the Clinton Foundation.

Can you see why President Trump might have been a little suspicious of that nation and its government? Yet, while Obama refused to give weapons and other lethal aid to Kiev, President Trump is the only president to have done so. What more could he have done to help a nation with such a checkered reputation?

The Senate must shut down this Schiff sham as quickly as possible, but it should take all the time it needs to subpoena and put under oath the so-called “whistleblower,” Adam Schiff himself, Hunter and Joe Biden and throw in Hillary Clinton at the same time. Let’s finally get to the bottom of it all, rip the scab off this long-standing festering wound to the nation’s body politic and learn just how insidious and pervasive this whole anti-Trump conspiracy is.
