Madera County Board of Supervisors and Elected Officials Take Oath of Office

MADERA -  At the Madera County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, county elected officials were sworn in, beginning with County Clerk-Recorder Rebecca Martinez. Ms. Martinez was also honored with a plaque denoting her 45 years of service and is the longest serving elected official in Madera County.

Also sworn in was District 1 Supervisor Brett Frazier, District 2 Supervisor David Rogers, District 5 Supervisor Tom Wheeler as well as Assessor Gary Svanda, Auditor-Controller Todd Miller, Sheriff Jay Varney, Treasurer-Tax Collector Tracy Kennedy and District Attorney Elect, Sally Moreno. “As the husband, son, grandson, son in law and nephew of strong amazing women I am so proud of our first female District Attorney in Madera County. We all look forward to working closely with her not only during this transition period but for many years to come” said Frazier.

The first supervisor meeting of the year is typically a reorganization meeting, with annual formalities on the agenda. Tuesday’s meeting was no different, as 2018 chair Tom Wheeler passed the proverbial gavel to Frazier. The supervisors presented Wheeler with a plaque thanking him for his time leading the board. “It has been a pleasure to work with each of you,” said Wheeler “I have no doubt Supervisor Frazier will do an exceptional job as chairman.”

The chairman approves meeting agendas, presides over board meetings, serves as the official spokesperson for the board, represents the county at public events, appoints supervisors to various boards and commissions, and signs written correspondence and legal documents.

Frazier took the time to recognize members of his family and friends following the announcement of his chairmanship.  He also thanked staff for embodying the Culture of Excellence in their tireless dedication to the people of Madera County.

Frazier looks forward to the many opportunities coming forward for Madera County and will continue to host a series of on-the-road meetings in Oakhurst, Chowchilla, and Madera Ranchos.  “This is an ongoing effort to engage communities and increase the transparency of local government” Frazier stated.
