In an article published by the Sierra Star on Friday, county administrative officer Eric Fleming stated that he would advise the board to select current auditor office number two, Karl Noyes to the interim auditor position. The only problem is Noyes doesn't want the job. Following her landslide loss to Miller last Tuesday, former appointed auditor Marcia Hall cleaned out her desk and quit, leaving another void in an out-of-control office.
According to board chairman Tom Wheeler, someone in administration forgot the board of supervisors are the only ones to make that decision and Noyes would not be appointed. Our source within the board's offices said a series of phone calls were made (a phone tree) and they are sure Miller would be appointed to fill the remainder of Hall's term at Tuesday's meeting, then be sworn-in again in January for the term the voters intended him to serve.
Fleming met with Miller in Oakhurst Monday in an attempt to smooth over the transition for Miller's taking over the auditor's office sooner, rather than latter.
The board meets Tuesday morning in the Madera County Government Center at 10am. A live video feed from the meeting is available at www.Madera-County.com.
