MADERA - One person was injured after an afternoon shooting at the Vallarta Shopping Center parking lot in Madera on Christmas Day. Both the gunshot victim and male suspect shooter fled the scene in different directions prior to officers’ arrival.
The male victim later returned to the scene and was found to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Fresno hospital. The wounded man is expected to survive his wounds.
Witnesses said the suspect was an adult male who fled the area on foot. Police are confident with the evidence they've gathered to catch the gunman. Police say the shooting was an isolated incident.
"There's surveillance at Vallarta, which we were able to collect and follow up on, so there's a lot of information for us to follow up on at this time," said Sgt Chris Anaya of the Madera Police Department. “We are continuing our investigation but believe this shooting to be an isolated incident. We are working diligently, following all leads, and canvasing the area for additional evidence.”
The Vallarta Supermarket is located on County Club Drive near Clark Street in the city of Madera.
