FRESNO - Accused child molester and former Madera County Supervisor Harry Baker, died early Friday morning at the age of 87. Last month he suffered an ischemic stroke while in custody at the Fresno County Jail where he has been housed since September 24, 2014 awaiting trial.
Last week Baker's attorney, Roger Nuttall, said the trial was unlikely to occur since Baker was in grave condition. Baker's death proves to be the final delay in bringing the 2009 case to trial where the founder of Sierra Tel Internet was accused of committing a lewd act with a 13 year old girl in a Fresno motel in 2007. The trial has been delayed multiple times due to health problems, such as open-heart surgery and a tracheotomy.
Baker was in custody at an undisclosed Fresno hospice with a correctional officer guarding him. Last week Nuttall was quoted in the Fresno Bee, "“He’s in bad shape. I can’t say it (Baker’s death) is imminent, but it could be any day.”
Baker served twelve years on the Madera County Board of Supervisors from 1986 to 1998.
