Howard Ray Breedlove (80), long time Madera business owner went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. He was surrounded by those he loved, following a brief and challenging illness. Howard was born in Idabel, Oklahoma to Leroy and Lilly Belle Travis Breedlove. Howard moved from Southern California to Madera with his wife Frances in 1969.
After working as a roofer for many years, Howard and Frances started Madera Roofing, Inc. in 1975. He successfully operated it for 45 years. Also, he started Madera-Vegas Roofing in Nevada with his son in law Bart Burnett and they operated it for about five years. In addition to the roofing companies, he also built medical offices, apartments and residential homes.
Howard was a devoted Christian and regularly attended Cross City Church in Fresno. Howard had a heart to help people. He discreetly helped the elderly, churches and those in need with roof repairs. In his service to the Lord, he went on a mission trip to Jamaica with his brother Billy and Yosemite Christian Church.
Howard enjoyed working, occasionally visiting a casino, and watching sports; especially his beloved Dodgers. He often attended many of his grandchildren’s games. He belonged to Madera Elks Lodge, Fresno BIA and several roofing associations. He is fondly remembered driving around town with his little dog, “Cotton”.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Marion and nephew Larry Haugen.
He is survived by the love of his life Frances, his son Vic Breedlove and his wife Jennifer of Fresno, and daughters, Rhonda Olson of Murrieta, CA, Tana Herner and her husband Phil of Palmyra, Virginia, Debbie Burnett and her husband Bart and Elaine Kiddy from Coarsegold, CA. He is the brother of Bill Breedlove, Brenda Stiles both of Madera and Kathy Fahey of Fresno. He is the beloved “Papa” to grandchildren, Kara, Jarod, Kassandra, Sarah, Jacob, Eric, Jake, Brandy, Heidi, Russell, Victoria, Allison and Tyler. He is a great grandfather to eight.
A Celebration of Howard’s Life will be held at later date to be announced. Interment will be in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
