Mary "Cruz" Chairez (84), a native and lifelong resident of Madera, CA passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at a Madera hospital. "Cruz" started working in the flower business in 1946 and started Plaza Flower Shop in 1968.
She was a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, the Y.L.I. and a former life member of the Soroptimist International of Madera. Cruz was the recipient of the Madera Chamber of Commerce "Lifetime Achievement Award" and "Woman of the Year" from the Y.L.I.
Cruz was preceded in death by her son, Bob and four sisters, Mary, Grace, Eloise and Frances.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bob Chairez of Madera, CA. Son: Alfred Chairez and his wife Mary Ann of Madera, CA. Daughter: Debbie Chairez of Madera, CA. Daughter in law: Dee Chairez of Madera, CA and brother: Mark Mendoza of San Diego, CA. She was the grandmother to Ryan, Julie, Tiffany, Joseph and Anthony and great grandmother to Gianna and Jaxon.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service beginning and 7:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
