Veronica A. Moffat passed from this life into one with our eternal Lord on August 29, 2011. Veronica was preceded in death by her husband Honorable Judge Edward P. Moffat II, parents Marcelino and Ramona Ramirez and numerous Aunts and Uncles.
Born and raised in Madera, Veronica attended St. Joachim's Parochial School, Washington Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Jr. High and Madera High School. Upon graduation, she decided to explore the world of law where she went to school to become a legal assistant. She spent the majority of her career working for California Rural Legal Assistance helping the undeserved have a voice in the Valley as well as the Madera County District Attorney's Office where she began her career.
During her tenure, Veronica was a well-respected asset to the legal community who sought her for her experience, instant recall of various cases, expeditious procedural guidance and high standards for quality assistance achieved with diligence and expeditious service. As a result, she developed a rapport with those she encountered within the legal community as the person you can go to, to resolve problems with the utmost confidentiality and expertise.
Veronica worked in this professional for more than twenty-five years before her illness forced her to retire. She then became caretaker for her father Marcelino as well as her beloved Uncle Joseph Rodriguez.
It was fate that Veronica chose to begin her legal career at the Madera County District Attorney's office. A new Deputy District Attorney named Edward P. Moffat II had just moved to Madera from the Bay Area and they soon after began dating. They were a two different people: One private and conservative and the other an open book and outgoing.
They came together over their mutual sarcasm, love of family and devotion to the Catholic Church. They wed at St. Joachim's Catholic Church and made their home in Madera where they raised their four children. They remained happily married for thirty-five years traveling, playing penny slot machines and being with their family until the sudden passing of Judge Moffat in January 2010.
Veronica is survived by her devoted children Gina Marie, Edward Patrick III, Sarah Ann and Mathew Joseph along with two grandsons Kobe Garcia and Devon van Loon who were the light of her life and whom she enjoyed spoiling and taking them on trips. Veronica will also be dearly missed by her brothers Alfonso, Carl and Marcel Ramirez and Sisters Connie Ramirez, Marie Hall and Caroline Simis. Veronica also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Veronica will be missed for her over generous heart and compassion for not only her family, but her entire community. The first to extend a helping hand regardless of who you were and the last to ask for help for herself, Veronica died the gracious, wonderful, beautiful woman she was. She spent the last 13 years of her life not dying of cancer, but living with cancer. It was not her crutch, but something she was determined to overcome.
Veronica, we pray for eternal rest and peace with all our love.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00PM at St. Joachim's Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on: Friday, September 2, 2011 at St. Joachim's Church at 11:00 AM. Private Entombment will be held at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, Veronica's wish is that family and friends consider contributions to the St. Joachim's Family Table and the St. Joachim's Parochial music program under the direction of Sister Anna Rosa located at 401 West 5th Street, Madera, CA 93637.
