Ronald Wayne Tyndal (71). long time Madera educator, died at home on January 30th after a decade long struggle with Corticobasal degeneration, a rare neurological disease. He was born in Miami, Florida, and came to Madera at an early age with his mother, Lillian Walker.
He attended Madera schools and graduated from Madera Union High School in 1963 where he participated in baseball, football and wrestling. He attended Reedley College and Fresno State College where he received his teaching credential. During his high school and college years he was a well-known employee of Hal's Market in Madera.
In 1965 he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Dellavalle Tyndal, beginning a union that lasted 51 years.
His teaching career with Madera Unified School District spanned 32 years during which he taught woodshop at Thomas Jefferson Jr. High. In 1970, he and his wife purchased a small vineyard west of a Madera and moved their growing family to the farm. He was an active organic raisin farmer until illness forced his retirement. His son Michael continues farming the property today.
As his children grew, he was active in baseball activities, 4-H project work and teaching his strong work ethic to his family. He also played a mean third base for the Fat Alberts recreational softball team.
Ron is survived by his wife Joan; sons Kenneth, Michael and John; daughters-in-law Geri and Darlene; grandchildren McKayla, Jackson and Ethan. Also surviving is daughter Kathleen.
Private Family Services were held with interment at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
