FRESNO - Fresno Football Club is proud to announce the club will host Major League Soccer (MLS) affiliate Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s reserves on Wednesday, September 5th at Chukchansi Park. "This is a fantastic opportunity for our players to compete against a top club," said Foxes head coach Adam Smith. "I am really happy for the organization to be able to host a team comprised of player from our affiliate and give our fans a chance to see more top-level soccer here in Fresno."
Earlier this season, Vancouver announced it had selected Fresno FC as its USL affiliate. As part of the agreement, the expansion franchise has received players in midfielder Noah Verhoeven, defenders Justin Fiddes and Matthew Baldisimo, forward Terran Campbell and goalkeeper Sean Melvin. Melvin eventually signed an MLS Homegrown contract with Whitecaps FC in April. The Foxes also signed defender Cory Brown from Vancouver, after he was drafted with the 62nd pick in the MLS SuperDraft, and recently received striker Myer Bevan on loan through the end of the USL season.
Whitecaps FC made international news just a few weeks ago when homegrown midfielder Alphonso Davies earned an MLS record-breaking transfer to Germany's Bayern Munich. Vancouver’s roster will feature a number of other exciting young prospects coming up from their academy.
Much like Fresno FC, Vancouver is currently fighting for a spot in the postseason. Whitecaps FC (9W-9L-6D, 33 points) sit in seventh in the MLS Western Conference, just below the playoff line. Meanwhile, the Foxes (7W-9L-9D, 30 points) are hovering at 10th in the 17-team USL Western Conference.
Tickets for the friendly are immediately available and can be purchased at the Chukchansi Park box office, online at tickets.fresnofc.com or by calling 559-320-2525. The match is included in all 2018 Fresno FC season ticket packages. Season ticket holders with questions should call the front office at (559) 320-2525.
The Foxes next host Saint Louis FC (8W-6L-8D, 32 points) on Saturday, August 18th as they make a push for the USL Cup Playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Chukchansi Park.
