DAVIS - The No. 8 Fresno State equestrian team dropped its regular season finale 11-9 at UC Davis on Saturday. The Bulldogs finish the year with a 6-8 overall regular season record, and look towards Big 12 championships and the NCEA national championships in the coming weeks.
The Bulldogs outscored the Aggies 6-4 in the western events, but fell short in the jumping seat. Emily Maul was named horsemanship Most Outstanding Performer in the meet.
How it Happened
The Aggies were out to a quick start in the fences, outscoring Fresno State 4-1 in the event. The lone point came by Cecily Hayes in a 85-78 ride.
Fresno State bounced back in the horsemanship, earning a 4-1 win. Bulldogs Kameron Thorn, Emily Maul, Alex Krebs and Hannah Buijs picked up their points. Thorn set a career-high with an 80 to her opponent's 76.5. Maul also set a career-high with an 81 to her opponent's 77.
The teams were tied at the break, 5-5.
The second half went the way of the Aggies. In the flat, Fresno State earned only two points to UC Davis' three. The Bulldog points were picked up by Sara Tuck and Hayes. The senior Hayes was the only Bulldog undefeated on the day.
Fresno State earned two points in the reining from Lexee Padrick and Julianne Kelley. Addison Welman was granted a re-ride, but fell just short to her opponent 72-71.
