Fresno State's Juju Hughes Named MW Defensive Player of the Week

FRESNO – Fresno State sophomore defensive back Juju Hughes was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The is the first time a Bulldog has been named by the league a player of the week since Kyrie Wilson received the same honor on November 10, 2014.

Hughes played an integral role in Fresno State's 27-10 win at San Jose State this past Saturday, stuffing the stat sheet with six tackles (four solo), 2.0 tackles for a loss, 1.0 sacks, one forced fumble, one interception and one quarterback hurry.

Hughes grabbed his first career interception in the first quarter to set the 'Dogs up with a first-and-10 at their own 47, which led to seven points off the forced turnover to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 14-0.

In the fourth quarter, Hughes helped seal the game with a sack/fumble, both firsts in his career (recovered by Emeka Ndoh). It was recovered on the SJSU 21-yard line and was converted into three points by a 38-yard Jimmy Camacho field goal to put the 'Dogs on top 24-10.

He also set a single-game TFL career-high with 2.0 in the win.
